Yerba Dulce - Lippia dulcis - family: Verbenaceae (Verbena Family).

This is a low-growing perennial plant that is sometimes cultivated as a ground cover. It has oval-shaped leaves and produces small white flowers. Traditional Mexican folk use of leaves as an expectorant and as a stimulant. It contains a natural sweetener and is used as a sweetener in foods. Note: some studies indicate that this herb may cause thyroid cancer in laboratory rats. Do not take internally. Native to Mexico. Cultivated as an ornamental in North America. Hardy to about 30° F.
