Skullcap, European - Scutellaria galericulata - family: Labiatae (Lamiaceae) (Mint Family).
This is a perennial plant that grows to about one and a half feet high.
It has oblong-to-heart-shaped leaves. In the summer and autumn it produces
low spikes of blue flowers. Traditional European folk use of leaves as a
remedy for convulsions, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and problems with alcohol.
Its medicinal properties are similar to those of the Skullcap, Scutellaria
lateriflora. Note: should not be taken by individuals with heart conditions.
Note: do not use during pregnancy or while nursing. Native to Europe. Cultivated
as an ornamental in North America. At least one cultivar exists.
