To the Editor:
One of the most vocal cheerleaders for the joint imperial British and American invasion and occupation of Iraq, columnist Thomas Friedman, has outdone himself in his latest column, "Winning the real war" and is now calling for the re-invasion of parts of Iraq. I guess that our first murderous terror bombing episode wasn't enough to satisfy the blood-lust of this hawk. For these folks, the fun part of every American war is when we rain down mass murder and destruction from the air - with our bombs and missiles and anti-personnel cluster bombs.
Now our military forces are on the ground and they are being sniped at, blown up and attacked without warning, we are losing our initial enthusiasm for our little war. We seem to forget that it is their country and that we were not invited to come in.
British and American forces should be unconditionally and immediately withdrawn from Iraq. Bush should apologize to the citizens of Iraq and the rest of the world for his lies, his war crimes and his unprovoked aggression. To apologize to the American people, Bush and Cheney should tender their resignations.
Yours truly,
James K. Sayre
