To the Editor:

Thank you for the interesting and comprehensive, "On the Radio," article by Ben Fong-Torres (The Chronicle, December 19). However, I would like to present some information about one of the overlooked local radio stations, Pirate Cat Radio 87.9 FM, (www.piratecatradio.com) currently broadcasting from deep in the Mission District of San Francisco. Although Pirate Cat radio is unlicensed, the FCC leaves it alone due to a vagury of the infamous U. S. Patriot Act, which was passed immediately after the 9-11 attacks with virtually no debate.

Pirate Cat Radio presents an interesting and eclectic selection of rock and roll music, along with some satirical skits ("no DUIs, man, if you listen to PirateCat radio and are stopped after 2 AM..) and after midnight, some radio drama, such as a readings from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. May be Pirate Cat Radio could be listed in the regular weekly radio listings in the back-of-the-pink.

Yours truly,

James K. Sayre
