To the Editor:
The headline in your Friday Business section (July 15) claims "Economy 'almost picture perfect,'" yet on page one of the front section the same day your headline there said, "Huge HP layoff expected any day." It would seem that our economy is "almost picture perfect" for the CEOs that are busy outsourcing and shipping our good-paying jobs overseas to such third-world locations as India and China. Now with the coming of the CAFTA extension of NAFTA into Central America, corporate factory jobs that pay sixty cents an hour in Mexico will soon be moved down to Costa Rica and Nicaragua, where the factory workers will be paid even less, about forty cents per hour. It's the race to the bottom with the Bush Administration and our largest corporations leading the way. Picture perfect.
Yours truly,
