The Opposites Baseball Game

To the Sports Editor:

To honor the innovative spirit of Charlie Finley, a former owner of the Oakland Athletics, I propose that an annual Opposites Major League Baseball Game be played on April First each Spring. The batters would bat from the other side of the plate, the pitchers would pitch with their other arm and fielders would field balls with their other hand. The good switch-hitters and the truly ambidextrous would rule on April Fools' Day. Fun and frivolity would be had by all: players, umps and fans alike. Since the Opposites Game would be played near the end of the Spring Training exhibition season, it would not count in the regular season standings. So, no worries, mate.

Yours truly,

James K. Sayre
