Medicinal herbs now being added to foods and drinks
The marketing genius of American business corporations never ceases to amaze one. The latest fad is to add doses of common medicinal herbs, such as Echinacea, Gingko biloba, Kava and St. John's Wort to processed foods and drinks. There are several problems with this method of taking medicinal herbs. First, the amount per serving or the dosage level may not be evident from the product's label. Second, the dose in the food product may not be what you need. Third, warnings that appear on the label of a medicinal herb may not appear on the label of the food product with the medicinal herbal supplement. Certain medicinal herbs should not be taken by people with certain ailments, diseases or health problems. This sort of information is rarely, if ever, found on the label of food products with herbal supplements. Finally, the whole business is basically a marketing gimmick, so there is no good reason to spend good money to take medicinal herbs as supplements to processed foods.
