Herbal combinations
Medicinal Herbs are now being marketed and sold in combinations of two,
three or more. There are several disadvantages to purchasing and consuming
herbs in combination. First, their proportions are fixed and may not be
exactly what you want to be taking. Second, as mentioned above, if there
is a toxic reaction or bad side effect that occurs after taking an herbal
combination, it would be hard to determine which herb caused the problem.
Medicinal herbs are now also being added to multi-vitamin products. This
presents more problems for the careful herb user. If the proportions of
the herbs are too small, they will have virtually no effect. One also may
be deceived into thinking that one is taking a useful dose, when if fact,
one is getting a microscopic dose instead. Medicinal herbs are now also
being marketed in dietary supplements, beverages and foods. This method
of taking herbs has the same problems associated with taking herbs in combination
with other herbs and with vitamins. It is probably best to take new medicinal
herbs on an individual basis.
