General health considerations
As the old saw goes, prevention is the best cure. This is especially
true for the long-term maintenance of human health. Moderate daily exercise,
a low-fat and a low-sugar diet, generous helpings of fresh fruits, fresh
vegetables and whole grains all contribute to a long and healthy life. Body
weight should be maintained at a moderate level. The use of alcohol and
other drugs should be minimized, of course. Daily doses of essential vitamins,
minerals and certain dietary supplements such as beta carotene and co-enzyme
Q10 are undoubtedly quite useful in the maintenance of adult health. The
human body does have amazing powers of rejuvenation and renewal, but like
any chemical factory, it can be pushed beyond its ability to respond. Youth
often feel that they are invincible, and in a sense, they are partially
right. The human body can put up with a lot of abuse and the long term consequences
may not be seen or felt for decades.
