To add a bit of wit and humor to your message of "Do not block driveway," have your signs translated into several foreign languages. At the very least, it will give the rude driveway-blockers a little something new to think about.

If you live in an urban area, you may be experiencing visitors and neighbors blocking your private driveway with their cars, trucks, SUVs or RVs. Besides calling the cops, which usually takes much to long to be effective, you can place a "Do not block driveway" sign in a conspicious location to deter these rude drivers. It finally dawned on me that the AltaVista.com search engine has a useful and free phrase translating service on its web site, so I had it translate, "do not block driveway" into several European languages (unfortunately, my old word processor won't support any non-Latin language style fonts).

The results:

English: Do not block driveway.

German: Blockieron Sie nicht Fahrstrasse.

Spanish: No bloquee la calzada.

French: Ne bloquez pas l'allee.

Italian: Non ostruisca la strada privata.

Dutch: Blokkeer geen oprijlaan.

Portuguese: Nao obstrua a entruda de automoveis.

End.
