To the Editor:

Thank you for your recent front page story, "Park Service wants to eliminate exotic deer at Point Reyes" (The Chronicle, February 4). The creationist biologists now have their cross-hairs aimed at the fallow deer and the axis deer currently living in the Point Reyes National Seashore. Using demagoguery under their false banners of their creationist vocabulary of "invasive," "exotic" and "non-native," the administration of the Point Reyes National Seashore is gearing up for mass killing of these two species of deer, all in the name of "ecology." All the fallow deer and all the axis deer were born and raised here; they are just as "native" as you and I. Fortunately, in the reality-based world, Mother Nature makes no distinction between the so-called "native" and "non-native" species of plants and animals. This absurd notion is just a purely human construct that resides in the minds of a few members of the most destructive species of all time, homo sapiens (humans).

It is well documented that the first native plant movement began in the early 1930s in Nazi Germany. It was part of the Third Reich's overall plan to protect and purify their Fatherland from all undesireable human life and from foreign and alien plant life.

Nature is dynamic. The natural environment is always in a state of change; it is never static. Some biologists are now spouting a selective and unscientific creationist concept with their notion of turning the biological clock back to some fantasized pre-columbian static California ecology. If these same creationist biologists were standing on the shores of the newly-arisen volcanic Hawai'ian Islands, they would be holding up big STOP signs to any and all immigrant plants and animals that were attempting to land and settle there. In this way, the barren volcanic rock outcroppings would remain perfectly devoid of any new life. Thus, the creationist biologists are attempting to stop all evolution and change in the natural world.

Let's just say no to plan of the Point Reyes National Seashore administration to kill off and eventually eliminate all of the fallow deer and the axis deer living on the Point Reyes peninsula.

Yours truly,

James K. Sayre
