Oakland Tribune Editorial glosses over the monumental Bush lies about Iraq

To the Editor:

The recent lead editorial in the Oakland Tribune (July 15, 2003, Oakland, California) entitled, "Bad Iraq news hastens need to broaden coalition" is a masterpiece in glossing over the monumental lies of Bush that got the American people to support the invasion and occupation of Iraq in the first place. The editorial says that the Bush sixteen word line that stated that Iraq had purchased uranium from Niger was "unreliable." Unreliable? It was a blatant premeditated lie from the start that was designed to frighten the American people into supporting the Bush war on Iraq. Dick Cheney knew it was a lie. Connie Rice knew it was a lie. Colin Powell knew it was a lie. Donald Rumsfeld knew it was a lie and George Bush knew it was a lie. Perhaps it is time for these members of the Bush Administration to resign

The editorial goes on to assert that "it would be premature right now to call for a congressional investigation." Let's see, a series of lies and distortions got the American people to support an illegal criminal war on Iraq that has resulted in the murder of several thousand Iraqis, has resulted in hundreds of British and American casualties, is now costing us four billion dollars a month and the pontificating Oakland Tribune editor says that "it would be premature right now to call for a congressional investigation." What exactly would it take to get these editors off their collective duffs and demand an investigation of this long trail of Bush falsehoods?

Its funny, we investigated President Clinton up and down, in and out and for years on end about the non-existent Whitewater real estate scandal and impeached him in the House of Representatives for lying about his half-affair with Miss Monica. But its "hands off Bush" no matter how many people are killed by his orders.

And the editors also suggest trying to get our so-called "allies" to send in troops and military police and other personnel to help try to bail out this failed Bush imperial aggression. Brilliant.

Bush should just get out of Iraq now, unconditionally and apologize to the citizens of Iraq and the rest of the world for his monumental arrogance and stupidity.

Yours truly,
