Care for some spider genes injected into your morning breakfast cereal? A little genetic enginnering can go a long way. Genetically-engineered and genetically-modified foods and food plants:
by James K. Sayre
Building the corporate police-state to protect the makers of genetically-engineered (GE) foods. The recent corporate GE agricultural summit conference (The Ministerial Conference and Expo on Agricultural Science and Technology) sponsored by agencies of the U. S. government that was held on June 21 - 23, 2003 in Sacramento, California was protected by hundreds of cops, armed to the teeth. Our First Amendment rights to Free Speech, Free Assembly and the Right to Petition have been trampled by this excessive use of heavy-handed police state power. Of course, the local Sacramento City and County taxpayers will get stuck with the millions of dollars in overtime bills for city police, county sheriff and California Highway Patrol (CHP). The stagers of the corporate GE agricultural summit conference get off scot-free, naturally.
The Complete Corporate Crock: biotech is being pitched as way to end world hunger.
Bush and other U. S. government officials have begun touting genetically-engineered foods as necessary to help end hunger in the third world. What a laugh: multinational corporations and U. S. corporations are interested only in massive profits and seizing control of world markets. They are the least likely social institution to help the poor third world peoples in their struggles for food and nutrition. To help stablize their populations, the third world needs birth control, legal abortion and improved educational opportunities and legal protections for women. The Bush administration is dead set against providing birth control and legal abortion to women of the third world (and for that matter, for women in the U. S.).

Check out the Cuban agricultural changes since 1990. The whole island of Cuba is now basically one large organic garden. The Cuban agricultural experience in dealing with very expensive oil, fertilizers and pesticides may be a good model for us when the oil peak hits our economy. Cuban agriculture
